Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is an assisted reproductive technology (ART) used to treat sperm-related infertility problems. ICSI is used to enhance the fertilization phase of in vitro fertilization (IVF) by injecting a single sperm into a mature egg. The fertilized egg is then placed in a woman’s uterus. A glass tool is used to hold an egg in place. A tiny glass tube is used to put one sperm into the egg. After culturing in the lab, eggs are checked to see if they’ve been fertilized
Men with low sperm count or poor sperm motility.
Individuals with sperm quality issues that prevent natural fertilization.
Couples with male infertility after failed IVF cycles.
Men with obstructive azoospermia (sperm production is normal, but blocked pathways).
Cases of male infertility due to genetic factors or previous surgical procedures.
Overcomes male infertility issues by directly injecting sperm into the egg.
Increases fertilization success rates in IVF, especially with poor sperm quality.
Helps with sperm retrieval in cases of male infertility or azoospermia.
Allows fertilization even with a single viable sperm, improving chances for pregnancy.
Can be used in conjunction with other ART techniques for better success outcomes.
